With Respect for Space and History
The restaurant U Králů is a project we simply had to undertake. It embodies the tradition and history of an old brewery and features artwork by a great-grandson of Mikoláš Aleš. This kind of work excites us, so we approached it with the utmost respect for what the Inn U Králů represented in the past and continues to symbolize today. Our goal was to create a comprehensive tour that unveils everything hidden behind its rather modest gates. We aimed not only to highlight the space but also to convey its storied past to visitors.
How did the collaboration go?
It all began with long conversations at one of the tables with owner Michael Král, delving into the inn’s history and brainstorming ways to incorporate it into the tour. The objective was to design a simple navigation menu to guide viewers through all areas, particularly the cellar and garden. Each space includes stories about its history and the services offered, professionally narrated by Petr Král, a veteran Radiožurnál presenter from Czech Radio.
But there was one challenge: how do you bring a top-tier culinary experience into a virtual space that lacks taste and smell? We found a way. In the tour, tables are set with signature dishes. When you click on one, the owner and head chef, Michael Král, personally walks you through its preparation in a short video—even serving the dish at the table.
